B Chandrakala's (IAS:2008:UP) sudden repatriation to her state cadre of UP has turned mysterious. On 23 March 2017, she was appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation by virtue of her efforts to have made Bijnor an 'open-defecation free' district. Aned yet, even before she could complete 365 days at the Centre as deputy secretary, she was prematurely repatriated. Does Yogi need her services badly to project a pro-tribal image, she being a tribal? Initially, there was a proposal to appoint her as a PS to Sadhwi Niranjan Jyoti, MoS for Food Processing but a sudden move changed the scenario and instead Ashima Jain (IAS:2008: BH), her batchmate from Bihar cadre, appointed the PS to Niranjan Jyoti. It is learnt that the incumbent DWS Secretary P Parameshwaran Iyer (Retd IAS:1983: UP), PM Modi's hand-picked man for the Swatch Bharat Mission, made serious efforts to retain her in the ministry but failed.
