CBIC: Six IRS officers empanelled as Chief Commissioner & DG

New Delhi (08.01.2026): In a major move to reinforce the top-tier leadership within the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), the government has cleared the empanelment of six Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) officers for holding the Chief Commissioner and Director General rank posts under CBIC.

The officers, all belonging to the 1993 batch, have been cleared for Level 16 of the Pay Matrix—within the service. The list goes as follows:

Akhil Kumar Khatri (IRS CIT: 1993)
Brij Bhushan Gupta (IRS CIT: 1993)
Atul Kumar Rastogi (IRS CIT: 1993)
Shubh Chintan (IRS CIT: 1993)
Manish Kumar Sinha (IRS CIT: 1993)
Ganesh Dutt Lohani (IRS CIT: 1993)

The seniority profile of the contenders presents a varied timeline for the Board; while one officer is slated for superannuation this April, four others will serve through 2028. Notably, Manish Kumar Sinha offers the longest administrative runway, with a tenure extending until August 2029.

It may be underlined that over nine Chief Commissioner rank officers are already awaiting their turn for posting since October and November 2025 namely:
