If well-placed sources are to be believed, APEDA chairman Paban Kumar Borthakur (IAS:1989:AM) may pre-maturely repatriate to the cadre state i.e. Assam-Meghalaya. Reportedly, non-empanelment for holding Additional Secretary post is one reason but aspiring for better opportunity in the cadre state may be the bigger reason.

Those in the know of the affairs say that he would have better prospect in the state if he serves his residual service (Decmber 2023) there. Borthakur belongs to Assam and he is said to have a great affinity for his home state.

By the time the race for next Chief Secretary starts, he would have a fair chance to be in the reckoning as natural claimant though there are several senior officers from Assam-Meghalaya cadre who will be in the race; though a very few may choose to repatriate from Govt of India.

It maybe underlined that the incumbent Chief Secretary to the Govt of Assam Kumar Sanjay Krishna (IAS:1985:AM) is scheduled to retire October this year.
