As reported first by Indianmandarins as early as on June 2, 2016, the incumbent Union Health Secretary, Bhanu Pratap Sharma (IAS:1981:BH), has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training. Sharma had wide experience of working with DOPT as Establishment Officer before he was made Union Health Secretary.
The post fell vacant after Sanjay Kothari (IAS:1978:HY) superannuated on 30 June 2016. The additional charge of DOPT was given to Chirravuri Viswanath (IAS:1981:AP), Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances.
