Ashish Bhatia (IPS:1985:GJ), presently Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, appointed as new DGP of Gujarat; a post which is all set to fall vacant as Shivanand Jha’s three-month extension ends on Friday i.e. 31 July 2020. The state government had, early this month, sent a list of names of DGP-rank IPS officers to the Centre and UPSC to vet the next DGP. The Centre gave its consent on the names on the panel and the state government appointed Bhatia as the successor to Jha. The panel included the names of Rakesh Asthana (IPS:1984:GJ), A K Singh (IPS:1985:GJ) both currently serving at Centre.
