after-indian-attack-helis-kabul-gets-us-surveillance-drones After India offered the Afghan Air Force (AAF) four Mi-25 attack-cum-evacuation helicopters, the US has offered specialized surveillance drones ScanEagle. While the India-supplied four attack helicopters landed in Kabul in mid-January and were assembled there for deployment, US drones are expected to be used by the Afghan military as early as March. Together, these weapon systems should enable Kabul to secure superiority over the rebels in the battlefields north and south of the country. Major General Gordon Davis, commander of the unit that procures new equipment for the Afghans, said the Nato-led military alliance will train Afghan soldiers in operating the system. "Afghan army officers are currently being trained on drones in the United States," said Dawlat Waziri, Kabul's military spokesman. "As soon as their training is complete, they will be able to fly them here." On Mi-25, the Afghans don't have to be trained harder because they have experience with Russian era Mi-35 choppers. Still, India does not want to take chances and put Afghan fliers to the same rigorous training schedule that the IAF pilots are put through.
