KOLKATA (18.05.2025): Economist Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, is likely to be fielded from the Nandigram Assembly seat where by-election will happen as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has decided to retain Bhabanipur seat. Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee from Nandigram twice in a row – 2021 and 2016 -- is believed to be a safe seat where the Chief Minister wields strong influence. However, the victory margin in both the elections was not very big.

This is not the first such possible decision but just before West Bengal Assembly elections Ashok Lahiri was inducted as Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog and Prof Gobardhan Das as a Member from the West Bengal. Dinesh Trivedi has been appointed as Ambassador of India to Bangladesh.
