NEW DELHI  (28.05.2026): The Centre has come up with the team of 'High-Level Committee on Demographic Change', the pet project of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, two retired and some other bureaucrats have made it to the list. Former Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Durga Shankar Mishra (Retd IAS: 1984: UP) and former Delhi Police Commissioner Balaji Srivastava (Retd IPS: 1988: AGMUT) have been appointed as members of the committee.

This Committee is constituted under the chairmanship of Justice Prakash Prabhakar Navlekar (Retired) will have the Census Commissioner, another bureaucrat, and Dr Shamika Ravi, an economist, as its members. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the ‘High-powered Demography Mission’ on 15 August 2025, as a result of that, the High-level Committee has been set up.

The Joint Secretary (Foreigners-I), Ministry of Home Affairs, will be the Member Secretary of the Committee. This Committee will submit its report within one year. If necessary, the Ministry of Home Affairs may extend the tenure of the Committee by up to six months.
