Within ten days of empanelment as Secretary in Govt of India, the 1983 batch IAS has bagged five posts of secretaries. It's something which the batch did not expect. Those who appeared on the empanelment list on July 18 were calculating the month for their turn as secretary. They speculated that not more than two would get posting this month but the govt made avenues for five secretary rank positions by upgrading the post of NACO and LBSNAA to the secretary rank. Rajeev Kapoor (IAS:1983:UP) has been made Secretary by way of upgrading the post of Director, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) from Additional Secretary to a Secretary. Similarly, N S Kang (IAS:1983:PB) too in-situ has been elevated as Secretary by upgrading the NACO post under MoHFW. C K Mishra (IAS:1983:BH) and Amarjit Sinha (IAS:1983:BH) were also appointed (in-situ) as Union Health Secretary and Rural Development Secretary respectively. Mishra and Sinha served as Additional Secretary Health and Additional Secretary, DoRD. Last and fifth from 1983 batch is B K Prasad (IAS:1983:TN) who made it as Secretary, National Commission for Denotified, Nomadic & Semi-Nomadic Tribes. Most importantly, Prasad probed missing-files of Ishrat Jahan encounter case in MHA. He has been given a rare two year extension beyond retirement.
