Anti-corruption ombudsman has nothing to tell Parliament this year!

The government informs that since the appointment of Lokpal took place at the fag end of March, 2019 so there is no report as such this year to present before Parliament. The long-cherished promise of fighting corruption at the top level, the ombudsman called Lokpal is in place and fully functional.

The President of Indida appointed Chairperson and eight Members of the Lokpal and they assumed charges of their respective offices on March 23 and March 27, 2019 respectively. Pinaki Chandra Ghose is the Chairperson and Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale, Pradip Kumar Mohanty, Abhilasha Kumari, Ajay Kumar Tripathi, Dinesh Jain, Archana Ramasundaram, Mahendra Singh and Dr Indrajeet Prashad Gautan being the other members.

The Lokpal is required to present annually to the President a report on the work done by it, which is caused to be laid in both the houses of Parliament. Since the Lokpal was operationalized at the fag end of March, 2019, no such report has been submitted. Hence, details of the cases registered and action taken thereon by the Lokpal are not available.

Lokpal: Justice Bhosale resigned

Senior most Member of Lokpal Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale (formerly CJ of Allahabad HC), on Monday, resigned from Lokpal Committee on personal ground. Reportedly, he had sent the resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind.

He was, on 27 March 2019, administered the oath of office by Lokpal Chairman Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose.

The anti-corruption watchdog Lokpal has three members comprising a Chairman, a Judicial and Non-judicial Member. The members of the Lokpal will include eight members – former High Court judges and civil servants. The law provides for a Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in states to probe cases of corruption against public servants.
