An economics professor of a university of United States, Prof Viral V Acharya has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India. The post had fallen vacant after Urjit Patel was elevated as the Governor of RBI in early September, this year. The applications were invited to fill the post on September 29, 2016. RBI received nearly 90 applications from aspirants belonging to diverse backgrounds till October 21, 2016. ently RBI has three deputy governors including N S Vishwanathan, S S Mundra and R Gandhi.
