As Indianmandarins had reported earlier former Home Secretary Anil Baijal (IAS:1969:UT) appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, though a formal announcement to this effect is expected shortly.
The appointment related file was sent Rashtrapati Bhavan for approval in the afternoon on 28th December which was reportedly cleared by President Pranab Mukherjee late evening.
Baijal is currently associated with the Vivekananda International Foundation, a New Delhi-based think tank. Earlier he worked as Home Secretary in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Baijal also served as vice-chairman of the Delhi Development Authority. He was brought in DDA by the then Deputy PM L K Advani in 2004 to start a clean-up operation and give DDA a more people-friendly and transparent image.
In his long service career spanning over 37 years, Mr. Baijal held various important assignments like that of the Union Home Secretary, Chairman & Managing Director, Indian Airlines, CEO Prasar Bharti, Vice-Chairman, DDA, Development Commissioner, Goa and Counselor in-charge of Indian Aid Programme in Nepal.
