Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that as many as three IAS officers, belonging to 2002, 2003 and 2004 batch, are in running to become PS to Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal. The post virtually fell vacant after Shantanu Gotmare (IAS:2004:AM), PS to Piyush Goyal, was on 09th February appointed to the post of Deputy Secretary in Department of Rural Development.
If some well placed sources are to be believed the names doing rounds for the PS job are; Praveen Gedam (IAS:2002:MH), Ravi Surpur (IAS:2004:RJ) and Abhishek Chandra (IAS:2003:MT). Reportedly, the Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Gedam and Kota Collector Surpur have fair chances to be named as successor to Gotmare. Chandra's name too has been doing round who currently serves at Centre as Director.
Praveen Gedam took on the illegal building mafia and made a good name for himself among citizens with his strong anti corruption steps but was unpopular with MLAs of that district even though he was very popular elsewhere in the state.
Ravi Surpur, a native of Karnataka, is Collector Kota and is blue eyed boy of Chief Minister Vasudhanraraje Scindia who may or may not spare him for Delhi.
