Chief Justice of Calcutta, Uttarakhand and Madras HCs are may be elevated to the Supreme Court by the end of this month. They are Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul (Chief Justice of Madras HC), Justice K M Joseph (Chief Justice of Uttarakhand HC) and Justice Manjula Chellur, the first woman Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
Currently, two posts of judges are vacant in the apex court (SC) which has a sanctioned strength of 31 judges. The third post is set to fall vacant onJuly 22 - the day when Justice F M I Kalifulla will retire.
With the elevation of the three judges, the apex court of the country will attain its sanctioned strenght of 31 after a long gap.
