Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that Pravir Ranjan (IPS:1993:UT) may be picked as Joint Director, CBI. It may be underlined that the selection and appointment process of four Joint Director level positions was recently put on hold for some specific reason but it may soon gather the momentum with certain changes in the previous panel. Pravir, currently Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Delhi Police, has been handling important cases, including the disappearance of JNU student Najeeb Ahmed and the recent probe into the Ramjas College fracas. He served in in Puducherry as IG of Police from July 2014 to June 2016. During his tenure in Puducherry he took several new initiatives, including the new website of Puducherry Police, implementation of CCTNS for networking of all police stations, web based applications for security of women and strengthening of traffic police. Earlier he had seven years long stint in CBI as DIG.
