Call it part of Chinese intrigue, or mischief, or simple good humor. Wyndham Grand, the hotel where PM Narendra Modi is staying at Xiamen, played the famous Jagjit Singh Ghazhal "hothon se chhu lo tum" to welcome Indian guests. Indian officials said they had no role in it. They claimed the hotel management had organized it with the help of the Indian community. And as soon as officials noticed Modi getting into his room in the evening of August 3, top officials rushed for dinner in a glass-walled restaurant on the ground floor of the Wyndham. They included national security advisor Ajit Doval, foreign secretary S Jaishankar, Indian ambassador Vijay Gokhale, joint secretary in the PMO Gopal Baglay, MEA's official spokesperson Raveesh Kumar.
