Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that the Govt of India has initiated the process to give a new name to Indian Posts and Telecommunications Accounts and Finance Service (IP&TAFS) in view of its length. Tere has been a long due demand from the cadre officers to change the name and finally, the Govt has decided to name it as "Indian Communication Finance Service". The new name will entitle IP&TAFS as the only cadre to be called as 'Finance service'. IP&TAFS Group A was constituted in 1972 and caters for both Dept of Telecom and Dept of Posts. In Postal Department, the Group functions include financial advice, budgeting, tariff and costing, accounting and internal audit whereas in the Dept of Telecom IP&TAFS does budgeting, assessment & collection of license fee/spectrum usage charges, USO scheme monitoring and subsidy management, spectrum auction. It may be recalled that the first cadre review of IP&TAFS took place in the last week of October 2016 reducing the total strength of cadre from 420 to 376. The cadre review included the creation of the post of Controller General of Communication Accounts (CGCA),  some additional HAG, SAG posts and reduction of JAG level posts besides the creation of 46 posts which would be operated as reserves.
