Chief Minister M Neiphiu Rio on March 24 wrote to the Union Home Minister that there was need for chage of guard in state police as Sharma did not have adequate experience to lead the state police. On March 27, chief secretary Temjen Toy shot a letter to the centre alleging that it was Sharma's inexperience which led to "challenges and issues in the conduct of the state assembly elections in February 2018". The very next day (March 28) Deputy C M Y. Patton made a similar case to the Centre. Top sources at Centre indicated that Nagaland Govt appeared to have made its mind for the ouster of Rupin Sharma. But contrary to the allegations made by CM, Dy CM and Chief Secretary the incumbent DGP Sharma refers to his vast and veried experience of serving in the state as SDPO, additional SP, SP, IG, DIG, additional DGP. In addition, he also served on an overseas mission in Kosovo and was instrumental in gangster Abu Salem's extradition to India in 2005. In a bid to implement its well considered plan the Nagaland Govt appears keen on appointing Lungriading (IPS:1990:AM) as new DGP who has come to Nagaland on inter-cadre deputation as IG. It may be mentioned that Sharma was appointed by the previous government as a "stop gap arrangement" following the completion of inter-cadre deputation of the former DGP L. Doungel (IPS:1987:WB) in November 2017. If some top sources are to be believed the decision has been taken and file movement has gathered pace as well and hence the state police is expected to witness change of guard this month.
