The RSS has not only coopted Mahatma Gandhi but has now usurped him from the Congress when RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat called him a staunch Hindu. The Sangh Pariwar has been co-opting many other leaders like Sardar Patel, Swami Vivekanand and B R Ambedkar but Mahatma Gandhi is everywhere in the BJP-RSS programme.

In fact, soft Hindutva has a new trend and with the RSS praising Gandhi, the entire discourse about Hindutva will be changed. There has been a section in the right wing ideology who was opposed policies of Gandhi especially towards Hindus but with the RSS coming out in praise of him things will take a new turn.

Political analysts say that a churning is going on everywhere with RSS praising Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi hopping temples and Arvind Kejriwal reciting Hanuman Chalisa. But it is for sure that politics has suddenly shifted from pro-Muslim to soft Hindu.
