Punjab
may send a panel of all nine eligible DGP-rank officers to the Union Public
Service Commission (UPSC) instead of the requisite panel of five officers. The
state government is seen to have thought of this measure to avoid any
controversy on the issue. The
new panel, cleared by the CM in consultation with law officers, includes names
as per the IPS cadre seniority list. The officers listed are Samant Goel (1984
batch) who is currently on deputation with the Centre, Mohd Mustafa (1985),
Hardeep Singh Dhillon (1985), Jasminder Singh(1986), Sidharth Chattopadhyaya
(1986), Dinkar Gupta (1987), CSR Reddy (1987), MK Tiwari (1987) and VK Bhawra
(1987). Further,
till a new DGP is appointed by the Central government, which may take time, the
incumbent DGP, Suresh Arora, will continue in the job. Arora
has reportedly agreed to continue till the new DGP is appointed to avoid any
vacuum in the police governance., although, on Thursday, he expressed to the
state government his unwillingness to accept the extension given to him by the
Centre.
