The HRD Ministry once again failed miserably to fill the post of Chairman of CBSE; a post which has been vacant since December 2014. The Appointment Committee of Cabinet headed by the PM rejected the name of Dr Sarvendra Vikram Bahadur Singh as next CBSE Chairman whom former HRD Minister recommended as the first choice for the post. Other two candidates on the panel were; Kamalkanta Biswal (Professor, UEPA) and Khurram Shahzad Noor (Addl principal Director of educational wing of the Indian Navy) The SCSC interviewed the candidates on 15 March 2016 and sent the panel of three candidates to the DOPT on 15 June 2016. After the Search-cum-selection (SCSC) route failed to find a name convincing enough to the ACC, it has made the HRD ministry clear that the the post be filled under Central Staffing Scheme (CSS). All it has paved the way for Joint Secretary rank officers having at least three years of experience in educational administration.The new CBSE Chairman will be picked under Prakash Javdekar's regime as HRD minister. Reportedly, selection of new CBSE chief is expected by October 31, 2016.
