The EPFO's Central Provident Fund Commissioner, facing an arrest warrant for his failure to appear before Employees' Provident Fund Appellate Tribunal (EPFAT), on Wednesday failed to get any relief from the Delhi High Court which refrained from passing any interim orders on his plea.
The EPFAT had issued a warrant of arrest against EPFO's chief, V P Joy, in a case related to Dentsu Marcom Pvt Ltd's petition against an assessment order passed by one of the Assistant Provident Funds Commissioners.
Justice V P Vaish, before whom the matter was mentioned orally by Joy's lawyer, adjourned it for tomorrow as the application for stay of the Tribunal's order was not before him. Joy's counsel told the bench that the application has already been filed.
EPFAT had on May 2 issued a fresh arrest warrant against Joy in the case. The Tribunal had on April 22 issued an arrest warrant against Joy but he got a stay from the Delhi High Court with the undertaking that he would appear before EPFAT on May 2. However, Joy failed to appear before the Tribunal.
