All his colleagues are surprised and amused because of the timing. A day before Andhra Pradesh goes to the polls, state Director General of
Police R. P. Thakur conducted a Homa or Havana ceremony at home to ingratiate
his stars and please Gods even after the Election Commission of India has let
him off the hook after shunting out officers superior to him as well as a few
subordinates. The Havana or Homam, performed at Thakur's Suryaraopeta residence in
Vijayawada on Wednesday, performed just 24 hours before the polling has made
his colleagues wonder whether he performed it for his own safety or for the
return of CBN. The Yagna followed a day after the publicly-displayed bonhomie between
Thakur and special police observer K. K. Sharma at the Andhra Pradesh police
headquarters. Both of them hugged each other and Sharma even planted a tree at
the headquarters' lawn - signaling a truce between the AP Police and the
Election Commission. CBN, on the other hand, is at 'war' with the EC over the toppling his
scheme crafted with the help of a few officials. Thakur's Yagna started in the morning and continued till the afternoon.
Only after its conclusion, the state police chief left for his office.
Interestingly, the Yagna was performed by special priests called from
Hyderabad. As reported earlier by Indianmandarins, Thakur was in the EC's
crosshairs after it transferred DG Intelligence, three SPs, and the Chief
Secretary, among others. In all the petitions filed by the YSR Congress before
the EC, allegations of Thakur being partisan was made repeatedly and his
transfer sought.
