After Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha's tenure was extended for one year, speculations have mounted over the appointments to the coveted posts of CAG, Home Secretary, and Defence Secretary that are scheduled to fall vacant soon.
The incumbent CAG, Shashi Kant Sharma (Retd IAS:1976:BH), is scheduled to complete his three years tenure in the third week of September this year. Sources indicate that former Finance Secretary Ratan P Watal (IAS:1978: AP) may have the brightest prospects to be named as a successor to Sharma.
A few more names are also said to be in circulation for the top job. These are of Shaktikanta Das (IAS:1980:TN), the outgoing DEA Secretary; P K Pujari (IAS:1981:GJ), and Ms. Anjuli Chib Duggal (IAS:1981:PB), the outgoing DFS Secretary.
