After Tripura Congress heavyweight Sudip Roy Barman joined the TMC along with several legislators and leaders, many in state Congress believe it may lead to a reverse exodus from Mamata Banerjee's party in the state. State leaders argue that many top Congress leaders, including the state TMC chief, had left the Congress, apparently due to differences with the Barman family and its domination. While Barman junior was Leader of Opposition, his father Samir Barman is a former CM. The Congress is said to be planning to woo many of them back.
