Outgoing Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi (IAS:1978:RJ) has said that Telecom companies have been advised to be careful in dealing with Chinese telecom equipment because of their vulnerability. However, he made it clear that the government in no way was discriminating against Chinese investments in the sector. He told media on his last day in office that "We have raised red flags without a doubt. The threat is there from any hacker or mischief-maker. Chinese products have to be looked into more closely," he said. About two years ago, various telecom giants were sensitized about the vulnerability of equipment and products imported from China.
