Bihar special vigilance unit (SVU) officials raided the office and residence of Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police Vivek Kumar on Monday over a disproportionate assets case and claimed to have unearthed evidence of financial irregularities and a stash of demonetized currency notes amounting to over Rs 40,000.
Vivek, 39, is a 2007 batch IPS officer and a native of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Simultaneous raids were conducted by SVU teams at Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar in the neighboring state where his in-laws reside.
Bihar director-general of police K.S. Dwivedi told the media that a case of disproportionate assets under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Vivek by the SVU on the discovery that he has several FDs totaling Rs 2 crores.
