New Delhi (06.08.2024): The ruling BJP may get chairmanship
of seven department-related parliamentary committees of the Lok Sabha, the Congress
three and Samajwadi Party one. Trinamool Congress having 29 MPs in the LS may
not get any chairmanship. These committees oversee the working of ministries. The department-related committees -- 16 headed by Lok Sabha
MPs and eight by Rajya Sabha MPs -- are an important multi-party oversight
groups to oversee the working of ministries, their members interact with
stakeholders and influence policy. The number of Congress MPs has increased and therefore they
may secure three chairmanships. The BJP may try to provide Shiv Sena one
chairmanship.
