There are many other heartburns like Union Minister of State for External Affairs and New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi, South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri and Bhopal MP Sadhwi Pragya Singh Thakur to list a few but there are certain others like Ajay Kumar Mishra ‘Teni’ who was given ticket despite farmer leaders and Opposition parties baying for his blood for his son being accused of mowing down farmers during protest. But when the BJP is talking about 400 plus for NDA and 370 for the BJP, these are some moments when goal post of BJP is exposed to the Opposition to hit a score. Will they be able to do so is in future tense.

Pawan Singh’s name is popular in Bhojpuri speaking community which populates Asansol in sizable number and was the reason for him being declared as the BJP candidate from there. But the moment his name was announced, the TMC leaders and social media warriors flooded the micro blogging site with his songs having contempt for Bengali women. The narrative was driven that this is how the BJP wants to respect Bengali women. Bangla sentiment was at play and BJP was not ready to repeat ‘Didi O Didi’ jibe boomeranging on it which had already cornered TMC on Sandeshkhali issue. So, to cover up embarrassment and also check the damage, he was asked to make announcement on tweeter of his unwilling to contest LS elections however BJP’s Sandeshkhali campaign against TMC is damaged. The same had happened with the BJP during last Assembly elections. However, there was no problem with Pawan Singh winning Asansol seat looking at Poorvanchali population there.

Gautam Gambhir had some issues within the leaders of Delhi BJP and there was opposition for him from the organisational level too but besides these issues that could have been resolved with the intervention of senior leaders of the party, the issue of his winnability was also being doubted. So, the BJP now wants a fresh face for East Delhi. The case of Jayant Sinha has been spoiled by the ambition of Yashwant Sinha who apparently cannot live without power. The message was sent to him that he may be denied ticket, so he opted himself out. The BJP doesn’t want any troublemaker or a troublemaker linked to any person this time round. Senior Sinha embarrassed the BJP on many occasions. So Jayant tweeted that he wants to work for the party on economic and governance issue. He is not out of politics but away from electoral race.

The most shocking reaction for the BJP came from Dr Harsh Vardhan who tweeted that his ENT clinic awaits him. When Aam Aadmi Party contested first election in Delhi and the BJP fell short of majority in his leadership, his reluctance to form the government with AAP MLAs willing to switch side is being dubbed as the biggest mistake which gave three terms to AAP in Delhi. His statements as Union Health minister sometimes embarrassed the party and failed to deliver what was expected from him. In the first tenure, he was replaced by J P Nadda and in the second tenure by Mansukh Bhai Mandaviya but this time he was dropped from the ministry. His unquestionable honesty failed to save him as he failed to deliver what was expected from him by the party not only at the level of governance but also in Delhi. 

Dr Harsh Vardhan’s replacement in the Union Council of Minister from Delhi was Meenakshi Lekhi who is also denied ticket from New Delhi which she accepted gracefully. In case of Lekhi, workers have most of the complaint that she is not accessible. Journalist don’t matter in the present dispensation but they too have to say that it is difficult to reach out to her despite the fact that she was party spokesperson. Monika Arora was also trying hard to get LS ticket with the help of her RSS functionary husband Bharat Bhushan but Punjabis as voters don’t matter in Delhi much. Moreover, her electoral debacle in Assembly election in 2003 and some other factors went against her. 

Bhopal MP Sadhwi Pragya Singh Thakur who defeated Digvijay Singh from Bhopal in 2019 Lok Sabha elections is dropped this year for her statements inside and outside Parliament especially against Mahatma Gandhi cost her very dear. The BJP dropped Ramesh Bidhuri from South Delhi LS constituency for his words against Kunwar Danish Ali in Parliament which was objectionable however Bidhuri was provoked by Danish Ali. The BJP was not ready to be targeted for their mistakes so it got rid of them. But if it has really managed to foil attacks with these decisions or Opposition drove their points well will be decided by election results.
