With less than five months left for the completion of tenure of K S Tomar, Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC), the Veerbhadra Singh administration has reportedly started its search for his suitable successor.
Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that Vidya Chander Pharka, Chief Secretary to the Govt of Himachal Pradesh, is keen on the post-retirement top job despite the fact that he has the residual service until October 2019. But what is worrying him is the possible change of Govt after the upcoming Himachal Assembly elections. Reportedly Veerbhadra & Pharka are exploring ways to avoid a possible replacement of CS if a change in Govt takes place later in 2017.
It may be noted that the outgoing Chairman Tomar will complete his 62 yrs in the first week of May next year which almost coincides with the Assembly election 2017. In case BJP comes to power in Himachal, Pharka would be the first to be replaced and kept sidelined till his retirement in Oct 2019. In case, Pharka is made to succeed Tomar in May 2017, he would have a safe and secure passage unimpacted by any possible change in regime and will have a tenure till 10 October 2021 as Chairman.
Against this background, there has been a serious thinking inside the Govt to make Pharka succeed Tomar as next Chairman, HPPSC.
