The shadow boxing between nominal and virtual Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and real chief minister Lalu Prasad ended Wednesday on the former placing the latter’s son in the front line to face the opposition onslaught in the state legislative assembly. Needless to say that it would unleash its own dynamism into Bihar’s OBC politics. Indianmandarins has learnt that Nitish’s tactics has not humored the Yadav leader at all, who’s been grooming his son for future leadership of the state as well as the country.
As reported by Indianmandarins first, the two leaders are hurtling towards a showdown. It may take place as soon as Nitish is able to bargain a good deal with the BJP.
As was expected, Bihar Minister Abdul Gafoor’s visit to Siwan jail Sunday to meet imprisoned RJD strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin rocked the Bihar Assembly today, with opposition BJP demanding his resignation. However, the Minority Affairs Minister refused to oblige the opposition stating that he did not commit any crime by meeting a former party MP in jail and he would go and meet Shahabuddin again if he got a chance.
As the House sat for the day, BJP members, supported by NDA allies RLSP, LJP and Hindustani Awam Morcha, demanded that the House take up the issue first before everything else. Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar made the demand to Speaker Vijay Chaudhary who continued with the Question hour.
NDA legislators then trooped into the well of the House shouting slogans against the government. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conveniently abstained himself from the House at that time, and made his deputy Tejaswi Yadav face the music triggered by the latter’s father to rob JD(U)’s muslim vote bank.
