Sinha replaces former top bureaucrat Girish Chandra Chaturvedi, who is retiring as Non-Executive Part-time Chairman on June 30, 2024.

The tenure of Sinha’s appointment as Chairman will be for a term of three years beginning July 1, 2024. 

Sinha, who also worked as Union Power Secretary, retired as Union Cabinet Secretary on 12 September 2019 and later PM Modi took him on board in PMO as Principal Adviser. 

Sinha has been a Government Nominee Director in numerous major Public Sector Undertakings like ONGC, IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, GAIL, etc. He was on the Board of Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) for about seven years at a stretch and similarly on the Boards of BPCL and HPCL for about 6 years each.
