Indianmandarins has learnt that public broadcaster Prasar Bharati has finally decided to hold interviews on February 24 to appoint new Directors Generals in both DD and AIR. The two posts have been vacant for a year now.
Of the 10 candidates short-listed, seven are from within DD and AIR, including the current acting DGs heading the two bodies. Two IAS officers, one of whom previously served as Joint Secretary in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, have also been called for the interview. An officer of the Indian Information Service, too, is in the reckoning. Reportedly, while a section of the Prasar Bharati Board appears to be more inclined to choose IAS officers for these top jobs, many recently-appointed Board members are backing officials who have served in DD and AIR for long.
