Garg takes charge as DG, CSIR; the premier scientific agency

The incumbent Director, Indian Institute of Petroleum (Dehradun) M O Garg took over as the new Director General of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR).

The premier scientific agency had been functioning without DG (chief of CSIR) since May 2014. Dr P K Ahuja (holding the additional charge of DG, CSIR) had also superannuated on December 31, 2014. The post was advertised in the last week of December 2014. Though the search-cum-selection committee had supposedly, shortlisted Rajesh Gokhle’s name (Dir, Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology) but further it was dropped for reasons.

Finally CSIR has got its new chief in Garg, a Chemical Engineer and a gold medallist of Nagpur University. The reputed scientist has significant contribution in the indigenisation of core technologies in petroleum sector which included commercialisation of technology for recovery of pure benzene from petroleum refinery.
