The Cabinet Committee on Appointments has stepped into the issue of appointments of several key posts in the culture ministry. For instance, it has advised the Ministry to reconsider all names it had recommended for the post of National Archives of India director-general. The ministry is now putting together a fresh list of candidates. Meanwhile, it has recommended historian Rajeev Narayan Pandey and sculptor Adwaita Gadanayak for the post of National Gallery of Modern Art’s director. Gadanayak is seen as the frontrunner. And of the two recommendations for the post of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library’s director — retired bureaucrat Shakti Sinha and historian Kapil Kumar, the former is said to be the favourite.
