On 21 October 2017, the committee headed by CVC K V Chowdary had a scheduled agenda for selecting IPS officers for the post of Special Director (SD), Joint Director (JD) and SP rank posts in CBI. Selection of SD and SPs took place with ease but selection of four JDs hanged in balance.
CBI Chief, who was a Special invitee, sprang a surprise by asking for some more time to make recommendations for Joint Director posts. Consequently, the Selection Committee postponed the matter for 10 days. Accordingly, the meeting should have been held in the first week of November. But even as the November month is nearing its end, the selection of Jt Directors remains elusive. The inordinate delay is being seen in official circles as something unusual.
Sources say the inordinate delay may have some reasons. Reportedly, the names recommended for the posts have failed on consensus. If this were true, it indicates that something is out of sync - not a desirable situation at all.
