Prime Minister of Norway,
Ms. Erna Solberg, has pitched for promoting and harnessing ocean economy and
said that resources in the ocean should be used properly. Inaugurating the 4th
edition of the Raisina Dialogue in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, and about 600 top leaders from 93
countries, she added that ocean is a common good that interlinks countries and
so, the principle of might is right cannot be used for ocean governance. Her statement may be seen
as an indirect criticism of the People's Republic of China (PRC) which has used
force to capture some of the reefs and atolls in the South China Sea and
weaponized them. Ms. Solberg said rapid
climate changes in the Arctic area will have a far-reaching global impact and
the world has a responsibility to protect the ocean. It may be noted that some
countries including PRC have also been trying to capture the Arctic. She also pitched for
global order for international trade and said, international trade is for
prosperity and to benefit citizens at large while ensuring growth. The Ministry of External
Affairs in partnership with Observer Research Foundation is organizing the 4th
edition of the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi from 08-10 January 2019. The Raisina
Dialogue is India’s flagship annual geopolitical and geostrategic conference. This year, the theme of
the Dialogue is "A World Reorder: New Geometries; Fluid Partnerships;
Uncertain Outcomesâ€. The discussions will seek to address issues arising from
ongoing global transitions and changes to the world order, triggered by unique
leaders, innovative partnerships and new technologies.
