President Pranab Mukherjee's press secretary, Venu Rajamony, a 1986 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, may take up his new assignment as the ambassador to the Netherlands next week. Keeping in view his next ambassadorial assignment the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on May 25 terminated the deputation with President Secretariat w.e.f. 26 May 2017.
President is in no hurry to appoint another press secretary. Mukherjee's Secretary Omita Paul said on Thursday that it has been decided that the vacancy may not be filled in the current presidency. The President's five-year term is scheduled to end in July.
