A possible reshuffling of the Union cabinet that was on its way to materialize after the winter session of Parliament and possibly around Makar Sakaranti is apparently postponed as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley gets entangled in his karmic cycle. While giving Jaitley the option to choose his course by comparing his ordeal with that of BJP stalwart Lalkrishna Advani in the aftermath of the 1990's hawala scandal, NaMo may have moved away from any thought of showing any more sign of accommodation (seen as softness or weakness) towards an increasingly crude and belligerent opposition. If Jaitley resigns on his own (which he is most unlikely to do) following in the footsteps of Advani, his post could go to RBI governor Raghuram Rajan who seems to be the only bet to deal with dark clouds gathering over Indian economy. The resignation could also be exploited to beat the opposition with their own stick.
With that exception, in the new scheme of things, any cabinet reshuffle now or a little later would be seen as one more sign of weakness and hence avoidable. After his visit to Russia, Afghanistan & Pakistan the Prime Minister may initiate a smart and intelligent way, instead of a crude and aggressive one like his foes, to turn the tables on his political adversaries. An indication to this effect will be first available in his attempt to bridge the much-derided intellectual deficit in his government; and the second one in his willingness to harness the support of all those honest and intelligent officers who have been suffering as much neglect and disdain in his government as they did during the UPA regime.
