Immediately after the announcement of this year’s Nobel Prize for Economics to Abhijit Banerjee, as one of the three recipients, senior IPS officer Neena Singh (IPS:1989:RJ) hit the headlines today for co-authoring two research papers with Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, MIT Professors and Nobel laureates for Economics this year. 

Neena Singh’s joint work with Nobel Laureates titled “The Efficient Deployment of Police Resources: Theory and New Evidence from a Randomized Drunk Driving Crackdown in India” advocates the dispersed model (with moderate intensity) of police deployment, over the intense “hot spot” model of police deployment. The research underlines that rotating police checkpoints reduced night accidents by 17%, and night deaths by 25%, while fixed checkpoints had no significant effects. The research paper was published in September this year.
