Looking at the gravity and magnitude of COVID-19 pandemic, MHA constituted eleven empowered groups to ensure a planned and coordinated emergency response. This is an attempt to augment and synchronise efforts across various ministries. EGs would identify problems and provide solutions for effective and time-bound implementation of emergency needs, policies and strategies. The concerned ministries will take immediate action to implement decisions and recommendations made by EGs which may seek guidance of Cabinet Secretary if they feel that any particular aspect is not within their domain. Composition, role and responsibilities of EGs are as follows: Medical Emergency Management Plan: Availability of Hospitals, Isolation and Quarantine Facilities, Disease Survellaince and Testing & Critical Training: Ensuring availability of essential medical equipment such as PPE, mask, gloves and ventilators, production, procurement, import & distribution: Augmenting Human Resources and Capacity Building: Facilitating Supply Chain and Logistics Management for availability of necessary items such as food and medicine: Coordinating with private sector, NGOs and International organisations for response related activity: Economic and Welfare Measures: Information Communication and Public Awareness: Technology and Data Management: Public Grievances and suggestions: Strategic Issues relating to lockdown:
