The Telangana government has decided deferment of salaries, allowances and perks of people’s representative and government officials in view of the strain on its coffer due to spread of COVID-19 that has been declared as pandemic by the WHO. The government has exercised Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and Disaster Management Act, 2005 for complete lockdown in the state but in view of lack of inflow of resources, such tough decisions have been taken by the government.

As per the government notification, people’s representative from elected representative of local bodies to chief minister’s upto 70 per cent gross salary will be put under deferment. There will be deferment of 60 per cent of the gross salary to All India services officers to fight the war against the Coronavirus outbreak.

The state government has decided to cut 50 per cent of the gross salary to every other employees except Class IV employees. However, Class IV employees, contract employees, outsourcing employees will have to face deferment of 10 per cent of their gross salaries. Deferment of pensions of the retirement will be similarly imposed as per their categories and also of employees of PSUs, government-added institutions and organisations.
