Aiming at flying high in the state politics former DGP of Uttar Pradesh Brij Lal (Rtd IPS:1977:UP) joined hands with BJP yesterday. One of Mayawati’s most-trusted officers and a prominent Dalit face Brij Lal will now be tested on turf by Amit Shah. He also enjoyed the confidence of former UP CM Kalyan Singh. Enjoying the popularity among Dalit officers in UP Brij Lal will help BJP attracting more Dalits in the state.
He was removed from the post of DGP by the Election Commission of India during the run up to the 2012 assembly polls in UP on complaints by the Samajwadi Party.
Further UPA-II at centre had offered him the post of Special DG CRPF with a promise to elevate him as DG. Even the then Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde was reported to have talked to Mulayam Singh Yadav for his relieving from the state. But it did not work. SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav finished his brighter career prospects at centre by denying relieving from the state despite Brij Lal’s all round efforts to woo ‘Netaji’.
By taking him on board the foresighted Amit Shah would certainly taken the stock of things which had happened in the past. Shah would have envisioned some big political gains from Brij lal in state politics.
