A junior minister and a senior officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) are said to have conveyed to Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa that he should resign immediately on ‘health grounds.’ But the Governor is said to be in no mood to step down. Earlier a private person had advised him to do the same.
On checking with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the Governor is said to have found that the HM was unaware of any move to relieve him. Rajkhowa is a former IAS officer and was appointed Governor on May 12, 2015
Media reports have speculated that he may be dismissed anytime soon. A Governor can remain in office for five years but his term is subject to the “pleasure of the President” and, in this case, if President Pranab Mukherjee agrees with the advice of the Centre, Rajkhowa will have to go.
