As part of the Namo administration’s high priority for the agriculture sector in view of its importance in the 2019 national election, the Fertilizer Ministry has started cracking the whip.
Union Fertilizer Secretary Vijay Shankar Pandey (IAS:1979:UP) on 8 November 2016 removed PDIL CMD S Venkateswar and handed over the additional charge to D S Sudhakar Ramaiah, currently serving as Director (Finance) in PDIL. Reportedly, the ministry’s decision was triggered by the poor performance of the company for which it found the CMD responsible.
Earlier, Ministry of Fertilizer had suspended FACT CMD Jaiveer Srivastava and appointed Madras Fertilizer Ltd (MFL) CMD A B Khare as FACT CMD for a period of six months as part of an interim arrangement.
The Ministry found Srivastava instrumental in allowing a cartelization of the tender for the sale of gypsum. It also found that he spent Rs 1.25 crore to renovate his quarters at a time when FACT was sinking in losses, promoting several junior officers, and overlooking seniority of several others. The internal vigilance department of FACT, too, had made adverse comments against the functioning of CMD.
In June this year, Pandey, while serving as Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Fertilisers, had on June 14, 2016, removed RCF CMD, R G Rajan and entrusted the additional charge of CMD to Manoj Mishra, CMD, National Fertilisers Ltd with immediate effect.
