Since the Establishment Officer, DOPT, functions as a Secretary to the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet, the final appointing authority of the Govt of India headed by the Prime Minister, speculations have been rife for the past few months about who would take over the charge after the incumbent officer gets promoted.
Indianmandarins has reliably learned that, in all likelihood, Pradip Kumar Tripathi (IAS:1987:JK) may be named as successor to Rajiv Kumar (IAS:1984:JH), the outgoing EO, DOPT.
Having been empanelled as Secretary (Govt of India), he is being considered for a secretary rank post. This has prompted the government to pick up a suitable candidate to take over the charge from Rajiv Kumar.
Currently, Tripathi serves as Joint Secretary, DOPT, and was empanelled on June 13 to hold an Additional Secretary rank post in Govt of India.
All proposals for senior appointments under the Government of India, which require the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), are processed through the Establishment Officer as Secretary of the ACC. These include Board level appointments to Central Public Sector Undertakings and appointments of Joint Secretaries, Directors, and Deputy Secretaries in the Ministries/Departments. In addition, all appointments by promotion, which require the approval of the ACC are also processed through the Establishment Officer, whose office is located in North Block, New Delhi.
