Suresh Kumar is seen as next Punjab CS

Punjab Secretary

Indianmanadarins has learnt that the Punjab Government is evaluating the pros and cons of appointing Suresh Kumar (IAS:1983:PB) as state chief secretary in place of Sarvesh Kaushal (PB:IAS:1983). Credible sources said Kumar, who is functioning as additional chief secretary (development) and is scheduled to retire on April 30, 2016, has emerged as first choice.
Ironically, both Kaushal and Kumar share a peculiar situation at the fag end of their career: while the former has missed the chance to be empaneled for secretary or secretary-level posting, the latter can’t be empaneled for top posting because he will retire in four months.
Though Kumar is said to be close to the state deputy CM, there is a hitch in promoting him as CS. He is junior to Kaushal and so the latter can’t report to him. Since Kaushal is also not getting central deputation, he was sounded whether he would mind going on a long leave. Since Kaushal has served the state with aplomb and finesse, the state government would like him to decide the best course of action for himself.
