Singh in a fix, appointment as CBEC Member delayed ?

Mahendra Singh, CBEC, Customs & Central Excise
Mahendra Singh (IRS C&CE:1981) has been witnessing toughest time of his career.S Ramesh and Mahendra Singh were recommended for the post of CBEC Member together in the last week of July. Ramesh was appointed Member CBEC on September 23 whereas Singh’s appointment was put on hold as there was a complaint against him when his appointment was on its last legs.
Ironically, there is a provision that a corruption complaint, if filed within six months when one’s promotion is due, could not affect the promotion prospects. But his file kept shuttling between DOPT, CVC and Cabinet Secretariat for weeks. Reportedly, the Cabinet Secretariat cleared his file on 24 October. In case everything goes well, he may soon be appointed as Member CBEC.
It may be noted that the delay has given S Ramesh a seniority on Board (CBEC), though he is junior to his batch-mate on the merit list. Insiders believe that even if Mahendra Singh is further appointed as Member in CBEC, the delay may well affect his prospects ahead during his claim for Chairmanship of the CBEC Board.
