Annulling the earlier directive of Department of Revenue (to ED) terminating K K Venugopal as its special counsel for 2G scam case the Supreme Court appointed Venugopal as amicus curiae in the 2G spectrum allocation case. The directive was issued by the Department of Revenue under Secretary, Shaktikant Das who was laterally moved to Department of Economic Affairs in August. The Chief Justice of India H L Dattu had expressed his unhappiness over the Finance Ministry’s move.

While appointing Venugopal as Amicus Curiae the SC has directed the CBI and ED to continue briefing Venugopal about their findings and investigations into 2G case.
