PESB fails to find next CMD for Coal India; ball in the govt’s court

The public sector headhunter on Friday failed to select a successor of Suthirtha Bhattacharya (IAS:1985:TG), the outgoing CMD of Coal India, in spite of the fact that six candidates appeared for the selection interview. Of the six, four are heading CIL’s subsidiaries like CCL, WCL, CMPDIL, and MCL, whereas two are serving directors in NTPC and NMDC.
The PESB announced that it  “did not find any candidate suitable for the post and recommended that the Government may choose an appropriate course of further action for selection.”
The candidates who appeared for the selection interview were Gopal Singh (CMD, CCL), Rajiv Ranjan Mishra (CMD, WCL), Anil Kumar Jha (CMD, MCL), Shekhar Saran (CMD, CMPDIL), Kulamani Biswal (Director- Finance, NTPC) and Tanugula Ramakrishna Rao (Director- Commerce, NMDC).
